How to find out salaries of your peers?

Have you ever dream knowing about the salaries of others? your boss? your peers? your friend? your admired one? Have you ever gone to a job interview and soon getting an offer, but are wondering whether you are getting a fair salary? Well here’s how you can find out.

For a long while, it hasn’t been easy to find out the real salary of your job. Sure you can go to some salary survey but you well know different region, age, job class, experience, do come in play. But most of all, it’s the company also. Bigger, more profitable companies pay better than others. That’s a fact. You may also find yourself in a situation where you’re about to accept an offer and you have no clue whether the offer is mediocre, good or great? And again this depends on what you can find out about the company. Fortunately, now there’s an online tool that does that…

1. Go to http://www.glassdoor.com

2. Sign-up and you’ll be able to browse through company reviews and salary details of various companies.

Glassdoor.com allows current and recent former employees to anonymously report their salaries and to provide detailed company reviews by rating their workplaces and management teams. The companies they rate provides others a peer at that company and their culture. For example, we saw the advice given to Google management:

“Focus, focus, focus. AdSense for Drainpipes, or whatever teams are working on this week, is not your core business. Do not fall into the Microsoft trap of competing with anything that breathes. Focus on what you do best, focus on the parts that can actually be profitable. Oh, and you don’t *have* to hire every engineer on earth. Seriously.”
