Came across an interesting tool that I had to blog. Ever since designing web pages, one of the first thing you learn is browser compatibility. This is really a painpoint because many times after you spent hours making a page work for Firefox, you then found that it doesn’t display properly in Internet Explorer or vice versa. That really kills the fun, entertainment and joy. In fact, you just never know these days… when there are so many breeds of browsers and so many versions of the same.

Wouldn’t be nice to be able to test drive any web site across all the different browsers that exist on this planet, all at once?

Browsershots

Testing web page layouts and design in varied browsers is made easy by Browsershots. Browsershots is a free open-source online service that takes screenshots of your web page design in different browsers.

1. Enter the URL you wish to test.

2. Click on the browser versions you’d like to see…

3. Wait for about 10 minutes. Reload the page once in a while and you can see the thumbnail of those pages for different browsers generated.

4. You can also click on each image to look at the details.

One fo the best thing I like, as a bonus I think, is I get to see the whole web page in one big long screenshot (i.e. printing entire browser screen top to bottom), this is really cool because I won’t have to only browse part of the screen and either move the screen down or stitch the views. One extra point for these guys.

Enjoy this. If you like what you’re reading, why not click on the RSS feed button to bookmark this web site.
