Social Networks are common these days because everyone wants to connect to everyone else whether it’s for work, personal or social reasons. We have different groups, interests and affiliations. Employers are also hawking on the social network to try to learn the good and the bad about their potential employees. Some employers are checking the old MySpace pages but there’re at least few dozen other social networks out there.

We found out that there’s a tool out there that will help you do 3 things:

  • Check the name of a person to see which social network he/she is registered under
  • Check the availability of a name across all the social networks
  • Check how you’re using the social networks

Namechk.com

OK, from looking at the screenshot, you can see how I simply enter a name (me) to determine which social network has my name registered. This can be useful for you to determine if an interesting alias / username is available. That’s one very useful way to use it and the other, to check if someone you know has accounts on some of the social networks. Now the exception being the person you’re looking for may not necessarily be using the same login on every social network and you’ll have to judge for yourself.

I simply used it and found a social network site that I never knew about and decided to register, just to ensure my username is locked down for me. Now that’s a third way to use this tool. And on another occasion, I discovered a social network that I registered that I have abandoned and haven’t been using for a while and I went on to visit it. And that’s a 4th way to use it.

Oh of course, the tool is called Namechk. Click on the link to go there. Have fun
