My Canon DSLR shutter stopped working and instead of spending hundreds of dollars to fix it, I decided to trade it in for a new Canon 50D. This is called the Canon Loyalty Program. How it works is this. If your Canon camera has any problem what-so-ever, normally you could send it in for repair. If you’re out of warranty Canon could give you a quote. But here’s a new option from now to the end of 2009. You can decide to pay a cheap price for one of the latest Canon Camera model and send in your old camera. You can do this even if it’s a very small problem or in some case, I think you can report a problem that doesn’t exist because they won’t need to have your camera on their hands before you can make this decision.

How do you get started? What I did is first call the Canon Customer Service line at  Customer Loyalty Program’s direct number is 866-443-8002. Describe your camera, model and the problem you are having. You can then ask for the replacement option. They’ll redirect your call to another number to take down the details. They will ask you to confirm the purchase. The sale is final beyond this point and you cannot cancel afterwards. You will then be asked to pay $10 for 2 nights shipping or $20 for next day shipping. And yes, the camera does arrive that quick!!! After this, you will have 10 days to send back the old camera (minus any accessories such as batteries, cables, manual, pluggable lens that they don’ need). And if you don’t they claim they will charge you for the market value of your old camera.

And that’s it! So what’s the catch. The DSLR camera option is for a Canon camera refurblished model. It came to me looking like brand new though except you only get 90 days warranty. Well I figure a new camera gets 1 year warranty and then anything can still go wrong. Besides the camera is made in Japan so it’s worth a bet than to pay hundreds more. Your decision !!!
